Your website needs two things to stay online: a domain (your address, for example yourbusiness.com.pk) and hosting (the space your site actually sits in). Both are rented, not bought, and both have to be renewed.
How we handle it
We track the expiry date of every domain and hosting account we manage for you. You will hear from us 60 days, 30 days and again 7 days before anything is due — with the invoice, so there is time to arrange payment without any rush.
You do not need to remember the dates. But if you want to know when yours falls due, just ask and we will tell you.
What happens if a renewal is missed
This is worth understanding, because the two behave very differently.
Hosting expires: your website goes offline. Email attached to that domain stops working too. Once the invoice is cleared it comes back, usually the same day. Your files are held for a grace period, but do not leave it for weeks.
Domain expires: this is the serious one. After expiry the name sits in a grace period, and after that it can be bought by anyone. We have seen businesses lose a domain they had used for years, and getting it back is sometimes impossible and always expensive. If you receive a domain renewal notice, please treat it as urgent.
What it costs
Renewals are quoted on the invoice each time. Domains are usually taken for two years at a time, hosting the same, because it works out cheaper than renewing yearly. If you would rather renew for a single year, tell us and we will quote it that way.
Do I own my domain?
Yes. The domain is registered in your business name — we manage it for you, we do not hold it hostage. If you ever move to another provider we will hand over what is needed.
Renewed directly with the registrar?
Let us know. We check expiry dates automatically, so it usually corrects itself, but telling us saves you a reminder you do not need.
